Dr. Bernhard has more than 35 years’ experience in the evaluation of work-related disability and personal injury. He is a Qualified Medical Evaluator (Q.M.E.) in the state of California, providing detailed, timely and ratable reports for Workers’ Compensation in accordance with A.C.O.E.M. and A.M.A. Guides, 5th edition. He addresses A.O.E./C.O.E., causation, apportionment, impairment and appropriate work restrictions. Dr. Bernhard also performs evaluations of federal employees’ injuries utilizing the A.M.A. Guides, 6th edition and other work-related injuries utilizing the A.M.A. Guides, 4th edition. He is an Independent Medical Evaluator (I.M.E.) for long-term disability.
His areas of special interest include injuries to the spine, knees and ankles. He also evaluates for carpal tunnel, chronic pain problems and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Dr. Bernhard has expertise with assessment of stroke, amputees, spinal cord and brain injuries, and he performs E.M.G.s and nerve conduction studies.
Dr. Bernhard is an A.B.M.S.-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As a physiatrist, he specializes in evaluation of the musculoskeletal system -- offering the ideal skills for the assessment of low back pain and other work-related injuries.
